President Donald Trump’s longtime ally Roger Stone finally received his sentencing of 40 months in prison. However, Stone may not stay in prison for a very long time as Trump may likely give him a pardon.
Stone was arrested and tried for witness tampering, false statements, and obstruction of official proceedings following the Mueller investigation. He was recently given his sentence of 40 months in prison with two years of probation, contrary to the prosecution’s initial request that he spend seven to nine years. Instead, he will be serving time behind bars for three years and four months. Even during this time, Trump was already believed to interfere with Stone’s trial following his tweets regarding the case and his congratulating of William Barr. Politicalflare reports that there is a chance that Stone will receive a full pardon due to his personal associations with Trump, and it will not be hard to see why Trump will be giving him a pardon.
Everyone has already anticipated Trump’s pardon for Stone, and even though he was already given his sentence, everyone knows he will not be behind bars for long in the coming days, weeks, or months but not years. Everyone still is anticipating that Stone will be walking free any time now. It is clear that Trump is willing to overlook the laws for his own personal gain. Stone was not prosecuted for standing up for Trump, but rather for covering up for the President. This seems to foreshadow what may be coming in the 2020 Elections, with the recent ominous revelations of foreign interference to make sure Trump wins again.
Meanwhile, Judge Amy Berman Jackson gave Stone a dressing down before giving out his sentence. Quoting a part of trial witness Randy Credico’s letter, Stone is “an insecure person who craves and recklessly pursues attention,” said Jackson. She had also taken a jab towards Trump as well, who thought their sentencing guidelines were harsh. Jackson said that it was not an oversight on their part. She went on to tell the court that Stone’s actions resulted in an “inaccurate, incorrect, and incomplete report” regarding Russia, WikiLeaks, and Trump’s campaign. “This case did not arise because Roger Stone was being pursued by his political enemies, it arose because he injected himself smack into the middle of one of the most significant issues of the day,” said Jackson.
