Melania Trump reportedly provided the best encouraging words to then President-elect Donald Trump at the night of the 2016 U.S. Presidential elections. Mr. Trump, on the other hand, was said to be rather quiet, according to a former White House staff.
This version of the story is part of the book “Team of Vipers: My 500 Extraordinary Days in the Trump White House” by Cliff Sims who used to work in the White House. Sims’ account of the events covered moments that took place even before Mr. Trump was sworn in as the 45th President of the United States.
The book narrated (via PEOPLE) that Mr. Trump was rather “speechless” and was “at a loss for words” when he officially won the election. Sims further described Mr. Trump showing a sense of vulnerability at that moment. Luckily, the then incoming FLOTUS was there to reportedly reassured him by saying, “We’re going to do this together and you’re going to be a great president.”
Sims’ version of the White House insider stories further claims that Mrs. Trump “was never the person outside observers” or, as painted by various news outlets, unprepared for the official responsibilities that come along with her husband winning the election. “For good or ill, she was in it with him all the way,” Sims added.
An earlier piece by Michael Wolff for the New York Magazine claimed that Mrs. Trump “was in tears — and not of joy” when it was becoming clear that her husband would become the next U.S. President. But Wolff practically has the same account about Mr. Trump’s response describing the moment “as if he had seen a ghost.” Wolff added that the Trumps were “fighting” on Inauguration Day.
Melania Trump has since dismissed Wolff’s story through a statement by her communications director Stephanie Grisham. Meanwhile, Donald Trump previously downplayed Sims’ accounts as “made up stories and fiction."
